Today Brent Coon & Associates joins the national organization Take Back The Night to help bring justice to women who have been victims of physical, emotional and psychological abuse, rape and sexual assault, and job discrimination.

The founder of Take Back The Night, Katie Koestner, was herself a victim of date rape while a freshman in college. She founded the organization to end the abuse of women and provide an outlet for those who have been or are victims of violence.

Brent Coon & Associates will provide legal advice to those seeking aid from Take Back the Night. The effort is led by BCA’s Lou Thompson Black, one of the top litigators in the country. She will be joined by attorneys Julie Jacobs, Julie Ferraro and Lawrence Gettys.

Why has the force of one of the largest and most respected trial law firms in the country turned its attention to support the valiant efforts of Ms. Koestner? The statistics speak for themselves:

  • Women ages 16 to 24 are four times as likely as other women to experience rape.
  • More than one out of six American women identifies themselves as the victim of a rape or attempted rape (17.6%). Almost a quarter of women were younger than 12 when they were first raped, and over 30% were between the ages of 12 and 17. Thus, more than half were younger than 18 when they experienced their first rape or attempted rape.
  • Fewer than two in ten rapes are ever reported to the police.
  • 80% of all sexual assaults are committed by an acquaintance of the victim.
  • The U.S. Department of Justice determined that all rape victims, 39% of attempted rape victims, and 17% of sexual assault victims are physically injured as a result of their assault.

By working closely with Take Back The Night, the attorneys of Brent Coon & Associates hope to stem the tide of violence against women nationwide.
